Time for an Oil Change

So what I'm about to suggest sounds a little....crazy. But trust me! This could be the best thing that has ever happened for your face.

A few months ago I was browsing Pinterest when I came across a pin that changed my idea of a normal face washing routine. I immediately put "pinterest to life", as my husband calls it, and tried out this new concept. I found that it wasn't as bad, or crazy as I originally thought, and actually quite enjoyed my new nightly routine. So, I'm here to share it with you!

You can find all the information and steps for this on the link above. I have been trying this off and on for a while and it really feels great! My sister uses jojoba oil with extra virgin olive oil and a few drops of tea tree oil at night, and it has helped her face clear up. She loves it!

So give it a shot! Let me know what you think!

"No Poo"

Hey everyone! It has been a while since I last posted because life has been crazy! We moved to Utah, found and began work + school and are now beginning to settle down. So excited for our new life here!

A few weeks ago I read a very interesting book called "No More Dirty Looks"  that really changed my whole beauty routine. I've doing my makeup and hair for years without even thinking twice about the products I was using. I knew not to trust the food industry, but I had always trusted that the beauty industry would take good care of me.Ya right!! This book opened my eyes to all of the chemicals and toxins in our makeup and hair products and the effects it can have on our health. It changed everything!

If you really think about it, we use hydrating shampoo and conditioner, but yet our hair still feels dry after years and trial and error. We switch products constantly and are always looking for the next best thing to solve our problem. But is it ever solved? Are we ingesting harmful chemicals and ingredients that are detrimental to our health? What did people do throughout time without all of these products? Are your lotions and potions really performing miracles? This is the big question.

Well I have personally decided to "go clean" and switch all of my hair and beauty products to a more natural state. One of the first steps was the switch from shampoo to the"no poo" (no shampoo) method. To get more information about it, click on the link below and follow the directions for the baking soda and vinegar routine.

 THE NO SHAMPOO METHOD

If you decide to give this a go then here are some tips:

  • In order to get the full effect, try avoiding other products such as harsh hairsprays, conditioners, waxes, silicones and everything else. This will allow the change to fully set in, and for you to see the true effects of going shampoo free.
  •  It does take a few weeks to get used to- your hair will most likely be more greasy at first while it's adjusting, but it will all balance out...Trust me.
  • I recommend using Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar- the Heinz distilled WILL NOT do the job right.
  • Try to go every three days without washing in order to adjust more quickly.
  • It might take patience, adjusting your formula, and trial and error to find what works best for you.

I have been doing this for over 3 weeks and am liking it so far!

Honestly, I love knowing that my hair is being taken care of properly, and it has actually gotten to be really curly! I am so surprised and LOVE it! So try it out! What does it hurt? Maybe you'll discover the dream hair you thought you'd never have. :)

I'll be posting more natural tips and tricks in the next few weeks so stay tuned. Meanwhile, you can check out some more info on my sister's blog. (ya know, sisters share everything! So naturally we have been going through this together-no pun intended..)

that tea tree tingle

looking for a great shampoo? i have been using this for the past few months and LOVE it! it not only leaves your hair squeaky clean, but smells so wonderful. i just love the tea tree tingle and the smell is enough to wash your cares away. this also pairs extremely well with the biolage conditioner that i wrote about here.

i do, however, recommend switching shampoos every so often just to maximize the effect. i notice when i use this too long, it doesn't seem to work as well. so keep it fresh every few weeks by changing it up!

if you try this shampoo out, let me know!

the stylist behind the style

it's been a crazy past few weeks! this blog is still so new, and i'm learning as i go (i know hair, i don't know blogs!) so thanks for your patience and support!!

i love talking to all of you and learning more about you. so here's a chance to learn a little more about me!

i have been doing hair for the past 6 years, and have loved it! my favorite aspect of being a hairdresser is styling. i do several weddings and find it very enjoyable. editorial or runway styling is my dream because i adore crazy, who-would-ever-wear-that hairstyles.

i love traveling and have had the chance to visit several different countries including china, mexico, peru, and even lived in brazil for almost 2 years. i speak fluent portuguese and want to learn spanish and italian. if i could, i would travel the world and see everything!

i love ice cream, (who doesn't?), exploring, and spending time with my husband. we've been married for seven months and love it!! i am so glad to have him everyday and he treats me like a princess.

the past few weeks we've thrown everything up in the air and decided to switch schools and cities, which comes with a lot of stress! thanks for your patience with my random posting and hopefully i'll become more consistent when things settle down.

thanks so much for all of your support! i am excited to continue to try some new things and have some fun!

a little longer?

the shoulder length bob is very popular right now! It's classy with some extra length. i think it looks great on anne and heidi, with slight bangs or no bangs at all!

this length is good for those who want length and a shorter styling time. it's easier to straighten, curl, or throw back.

the one downside (in my personal opinion) to this length, is that it needs to be trimmed frequently. it is a mid length cut that grows past the shoulders quickly, so trim often to keep the shoulder length style.

i really like these curls. a shoulder length cut allows for easy styling. just use a curling iron and curl in small sections all around **styling tip: leave the ends of the hair out of the curling iron. this will give it the unfinished, beachy look.** when done curling, run your fingers through to give it some volume.

What about (a) Bob?

in the movie, "what about bob", the main character bob learns how to overcome his anxieties by taking 'baby steps' at a time. i couldn't resist connecting the movie with the hair length featured today. if you can't take the pixie plunge, then baby step to a beautiful bob!

these three styles are shown just to get your mind mulling over the possibilities! you could try a wispy, textured cut like kiera. this look is great for a laid back style;  it's down to earth and forgiving (for those who don't care to style much). just add a little salt spray and air dry, or slightly curl with a curling iron while leaving the ends out for an unfinished look.

the second style is great for those who do not like/want bangs or heavy face framing. it is slightly layered, but is mostly an even length for thickness and volume.

the last style is simple and sweet, as kirsten wears it. it's good for naturally straight hair types, and some slight bangs. this look also adds definition to your jawline and cheek bones. very cute! just straighten and add a shine serum to smooth it all out.

this bob stood out to me because it's a very classic style that's great for on-the-go, or sleek and sexy. the heavy bang-like layers can be pushed back for volume, or styled across the face as a nice bang look. i also love the little front pieces that add some length and definition. the volume is perfect and the layering is fantastic!
(note: this haircut does take the back shorter than the others. this creates the full look at the back of the head.)

posh spice (as i grew up knowing her) brought this dramatic style in fashion a few years back. this a-line cut has become popular since she sported it in a variety of lengths and colors. this style can be adapted to different lengths and hair types. it most dramatically adds shape to your jawline, cheek bones and face shape. in her particular cut, the back was taken short with longer pieces from the top used pile up and create volume. this look was a big hit for a reason!

lastly, i loved this style because it can be used with a side part, or a middle part. (if you can pull off the middle part, i tip my hat to you. i wish i could!) this look is longer and is mostly layered around
the bottom. it 's easy to style with a straightener and can be adapted to wear with or without bangs. love it!

if you're thinking about going shorter, take the baby step and try out one of these styles! my latest, obsessed-with bob is worn by julianne hough, as seen here.

best of luck!
